Fun for the Whole Family

Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, teenagers, grandparents, or a little bit of everyone, the Nolin Lake area offers plenty of ways to spend quality time together. From animal encounters and underground adventures to horseback riding and unique roadside attractions, these are some of our favorite family-friendly outings—all within an easy drive of The Dam* Dam House.

Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo

Feed kangaroos, meet friendly animals, walk through an aviary, and explore a cave—all in one stop. It’s one of the area’s most unique attractions and a favorite for families with younger children.

Our Tip: Arrive in the morning when the animals are most active and the temperatures are cooler.

Dinosaur World

Walk among more than 150 life-sized dinosaurs, dig for fossils, and let the kids explore the playgrounds and walking trails. It’s an easy way to spend a few hours, especially if you have dinosaur lovers in the family.

Our Tip: Bring water and comfortable shoes. Most of the attraction is outdoors.

Leitchfield Aquatic Center

Need a break from outdoor adventures? The aquatic center features water slides, a lazy river, splash areas, and pools that make for a fun afternoon during the summer.

Our Tip: This is a great backup plan if the weather doesn’t cooperate for your outdoor plans.

Mammoth Valley Park

If your family is looking for a little more excitement, Mammoth Valley Park is one of the newest attractions in the area. Spend the day racing go-karts, soaring through the trees on a zipline, riding the chairlift, flying down the alpine slide, or playing a round of disc golf. With activities for both thrill-seekers and younger adventurers, it’s an easy place to spend several hours together.

Our Tip: Plan to spend at least half a day here. Between the different attractions and beautiful views, most families end up staying longer than they expected.

Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike & Hike Trail

Rent a bike or enjoy a leisurely walk along this paved trail that follows the path of the historic Mammoth Cave Railroad. It’s an easy outing that’s great for families with young children.

Our Tip: Bring a picnic and enjoy lunch along the trail.
