One of our favorite parts of traveling is discovering the places the locals actually love. While the Nolin Lake area is known more for its natural beauty than its restaurant scene, you’ll still find plenty of hidden gems serving everything from hearty Southern comfort food to barbecue, burgers, pizza, and lakeside meals.

Most restaurants are locally owned, laid-back, and casual. Don’t expect fine dining, Expect friendly faces, generous portions, and the kind of places where everyone seems to know each other.

Warnell Family Pharmacy & Soda Shoppe

Part pharmacy, part old-fashioned soda fountain, this charming local gem is worth the short drive to Brownsville. Stop in for specialty coffee, breakfast, sandwiches, homemade ice cream, milkshakes, and nostalgic fountain drinks that are hard to find anywhere else.

Our Tip: This is their perfect place to stop on the way to or back from Mammoth Cave. The cannolis are delicious!

Lakeside Café

This is one of our favorite spots near the lake and is just down the road from The Dam* Dam House. Serving homemade made to order pizzas with a large covered outdoor patio to enjoy. It is the perfect place to go after a long day when no one feels like cooking.

Our Tip: While you are there, grab some homemade cinnamon rolls to take back and heat up in the morning for breakfast - or for dessert if you can’t wait that long :)

Buoys at the Lodge

Located at Wax Marina, Buoys is one of the area’s most popular waterfront restaurants. Expect burgers, pizza, seafood, cold drinks, and beautiful views of Nolin Lake. During the summer, they often have live music, making it a fun place to end a day on the water.

Our Tip: Summer weekends are busy, but the atmosphere is part of the experience.

Mis Amigos Mexican Grill

If you’re looking for an easy crowd pleaser, Mis Amigos is an easy choice. Their extensive menu includes fajitas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and plenty of chips and queso to share. It’s casual, family-friendly, and consistently good.

Our Tip: Their portions are generous, so don’t be surprised if you leave with leftovers.

PJ’s Café

A local favorite for breakfast, PJ’s serves all the classics—biscuits and gravy, pancakes, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, and plenty of fresh coffee. It’s the perfect stop before heading to Mammoth Cave or spending the day on the lake.

Our Tip: Save room for one of their homemade desserts if you’re visiting later in the day.

Blue Holler Café

If you are looking for something a little different, Blue Holler Café combines hearty comfort food with German-inspired specialties in a cozy, rustic atmosphere that’s become a hidden gem near Nolin Lake.

Our Tip: If someone in your group wants to try something unique while others stick with burgers or sandwiches, this is a great choice.

Peace Valley Market

A quaint Amish market full of homegrown produce, handmade goods, artisan pizza, Amish foods, and more. Open 9am - 5pm, Mon-Sat. They are cash only.

Our Tip: If you are able to make it here on a Saturday morning, they serve fresh fried hand pies in a variety of flavors that are fantastic!
