Summer Activities

Summer is what the Nolin Lake and Mammoth Cave area does best. Whether you’re here to spend your days on the water, explore underground caves, hike through the forest, or simply relax with family and friends, there’s no shortage of ways to make lasting memories. These are some of our favorite ways to spend a summer day.

Kayak the Green River

Few experiences are as peaceful as floating down the Green River beneath towering limestone bluffs and shaded forests. Wildlife sightings are common, and the river moves at a gentle pace.

Our Tip: Pack a small cooler and enjoy lunch along the riverbank.

Spend a Day Out on Nolin Lake

A summer trip isn’t complete without time on the water. Rent a pontoon, launch your own boat, paddle through quiet coves, go tubing, or simply find a peaceful spot to anchor and swim. Nolin Lake is known for its beautiful scenery and laid-back atmosphere.

Our Tip: If your schedule allows, spend a weekday on the lake. The water is calmer, boat traffic is lighter, and you’ll have a much more relaxing experience.

Explore Mammoth Cave National Park

Home to the world’s longest known cave system, Mammoth Cave is one of Kentucky’s most incredible natural wonders. Take a guided cave tour, hike through the forest or bike the park’s scenic trails.

Our Tip: Reserve your cave tour before your trip. The most popular tours often sell out weeks in advance during the summer.

Go Horseback Riding at Double J Stables

Take a guided horseback ride through the beautiful Kentucky countryside. Rides are available for beginners, making this a fun experience even if you’ve never been on a horse before.

Our Tip: Reservations are recommended during the summer months.

Play a round of Golf at Park Mammoth Golf Club

Whether you’re an experienced golfer or just looking for a relaxing afternoon, Park Mammoth offers a scenic course that’s enjoyable for all skill levels.

Our Tip: Book an early morning tee time to beat the summer heat.

Ride ATVs at Blue Holler Off-Road Park

If your family enjoys adventure, Blue Holler offers hundreds of acres of ATV and side-by-side trails ranging from beginner-friendly routes to more challenging terrain.

Our Tip: Expect to get muddy and bring a few towels with you.
